PUBLIC NOTICE: Water Line Flushing 2017
The City of Melville has approximately 44km of a complex network of water lines in the City. Water lines are to be flushed to ensure the highest quality water possible to our residents and to maintain the integrity of the water system.
This year the City will be flushing the entire East side of our Water Distribution System. Flushing will occur between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm. City of Melville crews will begin flushing the water lines from June 5th to July 7th, gradually moving through the city.
· June 5th to 16th - North of 7th Ave and East of Main St
· June 19th to 23rd - South of 7th Ave between Main and Prince Edward St
· July 3rd to July 7th - South of 7th Ave and East of Prince Edward
The schedule is subject to change so please watch the City website (www.melville.ca) and the Melville Advance for possible changes to the schedule.
During the flush, residents in the affected areas may notice low water pressure or your water may appear reddish, yellow or brown in color. Do not be alarmed. It is recommended you do not use the water or do laundry for two hours, and that you shut off all time delayed water line appliances during the flushing period. If you have water-conditioning systems such as a water softener or filtration systems, it is recommended that you shut off the water supply valve to these systems until flushing is completed. Please fill up water jugs for drinking water and a bathtub for flushing toilets prior to flushing. After flushing is completed on your street, run your cold water faucets for 5 to 10 minutes to make sure the water is clear; at which time you may resume normal water use. If the water does not clear after two hours, please notify the Department of Public Works at 306-728-6865. City officials recommend that residents limit water use, especially hot water use when a flush is going on in their neighborhood.
Thank you for your cooperation during this period to ensure that Melville has the highest quality water available.
