2024 Candidates

Mayoral Candidates:

Kenneth Cherney

As some of you have noticed by the signs I’ve made “Vote for Ken the People’s Mayor”. As I have one vote out of seven to change or remedy issues, I will stand by the people of Melville’s decision to do so and not my own personal opinion. Public meetings (say once a month) and hand written letters to each other. The water bills and taxes need not be increased as there is too many increases in daily life, prices and stress. With the public find ways to decrease internal expenditures instead and ways to supply and grow as a community based city that is healthy, self-sufficient and wise in these trying times!

Thank you.

Maria Cole-Gayle

Melville is evolving, and now is the time for a fresh approach. We need a Mayor who can connect with our city’s changing demographics, bring a bold vision and innovative ideas to revitalize the downtown core, and create opportunities for everyone in our community to grow and thrive—all while listening to and addressing the concerns of our residents.

After 15 years of proudly calling Melville my home, I am once again stepping forward in service to help build the Melville we all envision—a thriving, welcoming, and prosperous community for everyone.

Four years ago, over 400 residents put their trust in my vision for our city and cast their vote for change. Today, with renewed determination, a resilient spirit, and a clear plan for Melville's future, I am ready to be your voice and help to create the community we all deserve.

Let's build a better Melville, together.

Joe Kirwan

I have lived in Melville for over 40 years and during that time I have always been involved in our community. I served 18 years on the volunteer fire department, I currently chair the Rail City Industries Board, the Melville and District Physician Recruitment & Retention Committee as well as serve on St. Paul Lutheran Home, the Community Foundation Board and the Melville Heritage Museum Board.

I am just completing my second 4 year term on City Council and I believe that the experience I have gained through my community involvement, city council and nearly 30 years in health care administration provides me with a skill set that would serve well as your mayor.

Together, with City Council and the citizens of Melville we can meet the challenges and ensure our children and grandchildren have the same opportunities and quality of life that we have enjoyed.

Lori Kraft

Councillor Lori Kraft is finishing her first ‘return’ term on city council, having previously served two consecutive terms from 2000 to 2006. She moved to Melville in 1993 with her husband, Dwayne, and they raised their two children, Brooklynn and Parker, here.

Lori works as a Youth Employment Specialist for Partners in Employment in Yorkton. Prior to this, she has worked in Melville for the Public Library and Extra Foods and was a frequent helper for her in-laws, Verna and Cliff, at Bo-Kay Florists.

In her free time Lori loves to spend time with her family, especially her granddaughter, Marlaina, and her parents, Dave and Sharon, who moved to Melville in 2010. Lori can often be found baking or crafting.

Lori is proud to call Melville home and glad that her family grew up here. She hopes to make it an even better place to live and raise a family.

Rodney Kuciuk

My name is Rodney Kuciuk. I was born and raised in Fenwood. Grades 1 to 6 was attended at Fenwood school, followed by Melville Junior High and completing my education at the Melville Comprehensive where I graduated in 1980. In 1985 I moved to Melville where I met my wife Donna and got married in 1988. We have 2 sons, 3 grandchildren and one great grandchild. In 1997 we moved to Saskatoon, then Regina and decided to move back to Melville in 2016 to be closer to family, Melville is home.

I currently work in Yorkton as a class 1A instructor while my wife works at Saskatchewan Crop Insurance. I am running for council because I love this city. First and foremost is we have a safe city for not only our seniors and children, but everyone. Everyone deserves a safe and quiet place to live.

Doug Mark

The cost of living is rising, and everyone is feeling the squeeze. With the financial crisis, economic pressures are just going to get worse, if we don’t act now to anticipate downloading from other levels of government.

I will work hard to help ensure that every hard-earned dollar is used in the best most prudent and responsible way.

We cannot keep raising taxes. I will plan for the future, not for the next election. I am a retired senior airport executive with 37 years experience working with managing capital spending, balancing budgets, and fiscal responsibilities.

I can bring new innovative ideas to the table.

Doug lives in Melville with his wife Sheila. Doug & Sheila have five children and twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two foster sons. Doug is interested in auto racing and enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

Andrew Rondeau

My name is Andrew Rondeau and I am running for re-election to City Council. I am particularly proud of the growth that Melville has experienced during my time on Council. During the last Council term, sustainable asset-management strategies have allowed over $30 million to be wisely invested into our city’s infrastructure, while keeping tax increases reasonable as Melville weathered the pandemic and the economic inflation that followed. Major capital projects - including the new swimming pool, lift stations, landfill, and lagoon - will serve the city for decades. Significant investment into our rinks and parks ensures four-season fun and physical activity. If re-elected, I will continue to work with childcare providers to create additional provincially-subsidized daycare spots, with the newly-formed Youth Council, and for revitalization to our downtown core. I will ensure responsible spending of your tax dollars, while remaining approachable, transparent, honest, and open to any questions or concerns.

Vince Thiessen

I have had the honour to serve our community on Melville City council since 2012. I am looking forward to a fourth term on council to continue to move our city into the future. In the previous three terms we have completed major infrastructure projects which will help prepare our community for the future. I will continue to emphasize asset management to improve our city's infrastructure. I look forward to continuing our focus on improving the city for future generations.
